IVIg Criteria in Australia |
We have received official notice that the new IVIg Guidelines Criteria for the Clinical Use of Intravenous Immunoglobulin (IVIg) in Australia apparently commonly known as the Criteria has been approved by the Health Ministers and will be phased in beginning, March over a six month period. This document will replace the current guidelines commonly known as the AHMAC guidelines.
Our current understanding is that all PIDAs will fall under the new categories of Chapter 5 and 6. This means that all those who currently receive IVIg will still be eligible to receive IVIg under the present funding arrangements ie it is free to Australians under the National Blood Arrangements.
You can read the full copy of the criteria here.
If you don't want to read the entire document (it's big) the most relevant sections to IDFA members are Chapter 5 and Chapter 6.
The National Blood Authority (NBA) has answers to some frequently asked questions regarding criteria for the Clinical Use of Intravenous Immunoglobulin in Australia.
